Could it be from the greek word “algos” and “rythm” which mean “pain” and “any measured flow or movement”
https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/ἄλγος https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/ρυθμός https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhythm
It comes from the Algonquin tribe famous for their musical rhythms and Go coding skills.
Like algebra, algorihm derives from the name of the Islamic mathematician Al Khwariizmi who has written a very wide spread and influencial book about indian numerals (today we call them arabic numerals).
And to explain the connection a little further:
- “Al” stayed the same, obviously
- The “arismi” bit was influenced by Greek “arithmos”
- The “Khw” bit went through several sound changes, going from Khwa > Kho > Go
The name “Al-Khwarezmi” is also basically just “of Khwarezmia” in the first place, so the entire time we have been naming the way youtube decides what to show you after a place in Uzbekistan
It’s named after the inventor of the internet: Al Gore.
And his excellent sense of rhythm.
And man bear pig
It’s Arabic.
